Dolmens

We visited a place with dolmens in 2007 year near Tuapse town, Krasnodarskiy kray (Russia, Black sea). Of course that place was adapted for tourists (we knew it), so we were little bit skeptical…

But when we met the dolmens and surrounding them forest… we felt a mystery. I can’t  imagine how those huge stones were placed on to their places! And note – dolmens are placed on the top a mountain… These stones are not just stones they have accurate shapes… Specialists say that dolmens have age same as Egyptian pyramids.

In spite there are many versions nobody knows who, why or why build the dolmens...

Watch our video from there:

A dolmen—also known as a portal tomb, portal grave, dolmain (Irish) —is a type of single-chamber megalithic tomb, usually consisting of three or more upright stones supporting a large flat horizontal capstone (table). Most date from the early Neolithic period (4000 to 3000 BCE).

It remains unclear when, why, and by whom the earliest dolmens were made. The oldest known dolmen are found in Western Europe, where they were set in place around 7000 years ago. This would date them alongside the ancient civilisations of Egypt, India and the Middle East.Archaeologists still do not know who erected these dolmens, which makes it difficult to know why they did it.
